2 Calories per gram of fibre. How does this affect me?
Fibre, prior to October 2009 had been considered energy neutral. Since then, and
mandatory from next year, you must allow 2 kcal per g.

Does this affect my products?
Pick a sample product from your range (one that has a value for fibre) and add
the following values from your nutritional analysis or calculation:
Trading Standards will do this calculation and reach the value:
0
kcal /0 kJ which should be what you show on your label.
If this is not the case, you will have to change your labels depending on how you have reached your
current values.
1) Group 2 nutritional analysis including fibre and salt - add 2 kcal per g of
fibre.
2) Group 1 nutritional analysis using Carbohydrate by difference - subtract 2
kcal per g of fibre.
your fibre has been included in your carbohydrate result
and multiplied by 4 in the energy calculation.
3) Energy calculated from McCance & Widdowson/ US FDA values for your
ingredients - add 2 kcal per g of fibre. There are a few exceptions to this highlighted in the book notes or the Description field in our online version.
